Screen Capture Video Workflow & Time Frames

A step-by-step list of how we produce screen capture videos

Following is the workflow that is used for most of our screen capture videos:

  1. Questionnaire: You (the client) completes questionnaire. This questionnaire covers virtually every question I will have about your project. It will take you a few minutes to complete, but it will save a ton of time later on in the process.
  2. Phone/Skype call: Although it’s not imperative for a screen capture video, when possible I like to speak with you on the phone or on Skype about your project to make sure that I am understanding all of your goals, video uses and more.
  3. Project Briefing: Next, I will ask you to prepare a Project Briefing for the video which you will then send to me. More information about Project Briefings can be found here.
  4. Written Script: I will use information acquired in steps # 1, #2 and #3 to create a rough written script for the video. The script is sent to you for review and changes.
  5. Voiceover and Capture: Once the script is approved, the voiceover (if any) will be recorded, the captures will be done, and all of the editing will be completed for the video.
  6. Rough Review: The rough edit will be posted to YouTube (unlisted) for your review. This will be your ONLY opportunity to request changes to the voiceover (without an additional charge). Therefore, it is imperative that you carefully review the script and the rough edit for changes.
  7. Changes: We will make changes to the video as requested and the revised video will again be placed on YouTube (unlisted) for your review. If the changes meet with the client’s approval nothing further will be done. If additional changes are needed, these will be made at no additional cost (within reason).
  8. Delivery: The video file will be delivered via an upload/download site such as Dropbox or WeTransfer after full payment or release of escrow has occurred.

TIME FRAMES

The process of creating a screen capture video generally only takes about 3-4 business days, but this can change drastically based on how long it takes for you to do your part of the process (steps #1, #3, #6 above). Longer videos may take a bit longer as well.

This is the workflow I use for most screen capture videos:

  1. Client completes questionnaire. This questionnaire covers virtually every question I will have about your project. It will take you a few minutes to complete, but it will save a ton of time later on if you do this step.
  2. I will use the information provided in the questionnaire to create a rough script for the video. That script will be sent to you for review and changes.
  3. Once the script is approved, the capture will be completed, the voiceover (if any) will be recorded and a rough edit of the video will be completed.
  4. The rough edit will be posted to YouTube (unlisted) for your review. This will be your ONLY opportunity to request changes to the voiceover (without an additional charge). Therefore, it is imperative that you carefully review the script and the rough edit for changes.
  5. Requested changes will be made and the revised video will again be placed on YouTube (unlisted) for your review. If the changes meet with your approval nothing further will be done.
  6. Delivery of the video file will occur via an upload/download site (Dropbox is preferred, but ge.tt is also an option).
